Thanks to its strategic position at the former “Zuiderzee” and a booming overseas trade, Stavoren once was the largest and the most powerful and glorious trading city of Friesland.  Today Stavoren still enjoys its strategic position at the IJsselmeer lake side, but has replaced overseas trade by many other attractions.  This  beautiful little village is now a thriving hotspot for aquatic sports holidays. But apart from the beach, the well-preserved ambience of a harbour city and the modern yacht marine centres, Stavoren has more to offer. On a very short distance you will find centuries-old forests on the hills of Gaasterland, a striking difference to the endless plains of the IJsselmeer lake.  An excellent network of bicycle paths allows you to explore the surrounding safely on a traditional and still extremely popular way.

Hotel Restaurant “de Vrouwe van Stavoren” is situated right at the old harbour. From the conservatory in the restaurant and most of the hotel rooms the view is spectacular. An eternal coming and going of fishermen’s ships, modern yachts and traditional flat-bottomed cargo ships (nowadays equipped for tourist sailing trips). The statue of the legendary “lady of Stavoren” next to the old lock keeps an eye on them all.  It shows us how this village succeeded in preserving the ambience of the past into modern life.  Inside this hotel you will find the same style: The beauty of the past combined with the comfort of today. All the hotel rooms are well-equipped, most with en-suite bathroom and shower, television, etc. The more luxurious rooms have an even wider set-up and also provide bath tub, radio, mini bar, etc. 

The restaurant offers a wide range of traditional dishes, amongst which a fine selection of fish specialities.
